Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We trust that you had an enjoyable summer and are looking forward to the
year ahead. We are very impressed with the fantastic start year 2 have made to the year,
and are looking forward to teaching them and working with you throughout the year.
In order to be fully successful in their learning, children need the support from both school
and home. In Year 2, children will have spellings a week for homework, the times tables
learnt in Year 2 are the 2x, 5x and 10x. Children also progress onto learning to count in 3s,
prior to learning the 3x table. Spellings will be tested on Fridays. Please continue to read
with your child regularly at home, preferably every day, and use their boom reader account
to note down the date, pages read and any comments. Boom reader may be used to record
any reading that is taking place at home, not only the reading scheme books. It is essential
that children are supported to read widely for pleasure, as well as developing their skills
through the reading scheme. If you have any brief queries or questions regarding your
child’s education, then please don’t hesitate to speak with us whilst we are welcoming the
children outside before school or dismissing them at the end of day. Or alternatively, if you
would like a longer conversation, please feel free to book a meeting via the school office.
Please do contact me if you have any relevant knowledge, expertise, contacts or artefacts
you would be happy to share around the curriculum this year. We look forward to a busy
term ahead and hope your child has a happy and successful time in year 2. We very much
look forward to working with you.
