Dear Children,

We are absolutely delighted to welcome you back to school and an exciting academic year in Year 1.

Year 1’s first term will be a little bit different to how we normally do things. We will be working alongside Ms Caldecott (Early Years Lead) to ensure transition is as stress-free as possible. Our first term will be more aligned to EYFS provision so that you have the chance to acclimatise to being back at school before we expect you to sit for lengthy periods of time at tables. We aim to make the environment as exciting and as happy as we possibly can.

We have a fabulous Learning Journey planned for this term. Paws, claws and whiskers! We will be looking at a variety of animals, how we can care for our pets and also looking at different habitats around the world. For Science, we will be looking at how we can classify animals and their skeleton structure.

For Maths, we shall be focussing on number – looking at place value and more than/less than, as well as basic addition and subtraction. For Literacy and Writing, we will focus on letter sounds and simple captions.

We will also have great fun every other Thursday when learning forest school skills.

It’s going to be a great year! We cannot wait to start learning with you…
