We are absolutely delighted to welcome you back to school and an exciting academic year in Year 1.
Due to Covid-19, Year 1’s first term will be a little bit different to how we normally do things. As most children have been out of school for a long time, we will be working alongside Ms Caldecott (Early Years Lead) to ensure transition is as stress-free as possible. Our first term will be more aligned to EYFS provision so that you have the chance to acclimatise to being back to some degree of normality before we expect you to sit for lengthy periods of time at tables. We aim to make the environment as normal and happy as we possibly can, whilst still adhering to the strict government guidelines for educational establishments.
We have a fabulous Learning Journey planned for this half-term. We will be looking at childhood in the 1950’s and will get the opportunity to learn some old-fashioned playground games. For Science, we aim to plant some beans, look at plants and trees and find out how fruit and vegetables are grown – we may even get the chance to speak to a real-life farmer !
For Maths, we shall be focusing on number – looking at place value and more than/less than, as well as basic addition and subtraction. For Literacy and Writing, we will focus on punctuation and beginning to write simple sentences.
We will also have great fun every other Tuesday when learning forest school skills.
It’s going to be a great year ! We cannot wait to start learning with you…
