Welcome to Year Five’s page!

The transition from year 4 to year 5 can be difficult due to the level of independence expected from the children as well as a more intense curriculum, particularly in regards to literacy and mathematics. We aim to make this transition as smooth as possible with a creative and exciting approach to learning.

This is a scientific topic all about plants, from how they grow to how they reproduce and survive.

This is scientific topic all about space! This includes our very exciting trip to the National Space Centre and covers other subjects including: design technology, ICT, geography and history.

Spring 1

The Great, the Bold and the Brave!

This is an historical topic, with artistic links, about the Romans, Greeks and Vikings and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Spring 2

Bake it!

This is a scientific topic about changing and separating materials, a great chance to make some tasty treats!

Summer 1

What a Wonderful World

This is a geographical topic with scientific links. It covers different regions and environments and around the world, extreme weather events across the globe and the effects of climate change.

Summer 2

Fit for Life!

This is a scientific topic about staying fit and healthy, which means lots of outdoor learning, so make sure you have your P.E. kits EVERYDAY!

 Don’t forget this is Glebefields panto season too!

 In maths we will be applying place value and number skills to other areas, such as: measurement, time, fractions and real life scenarios.

We have an active, practical approach to literacy to develop reading and writing skills which is accessible to all children. Higher-level spelling, punctuation and grammar is introduced in preparation for the end of primary school expectations.
